RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky women’s basketball defeats Midway University (2-5, 1-1 River States) 88-57 Wednesday afternoon at Baptist Health Arena.

The win moves EKU up to 4-2 (.667) on the season before hitting the road for a five-game road swing that stops in No. 23 Tennessee, Miami (Ohio), Northern Kentucky, Boston College and Army includes West Point.

head coach Gregory Todd moves to 14-6 (.700) all-time at the Alumni Coliseum at the top of the program.

Eastern Kentucky and Midway battled their way through the first five minutes of Wednesday’s contest, the Colonels forcing back-to-back Eagles after the first-quarter media timeout en route to a 12-5 run to finish first -Turnover.

Midway dropped 20 points in the second quarter, bringing their deficit to just six points, leading into the break. Alice Recanati led EKU with 13 points in the first half.

Bridget Fox scored seven of EKU’s nine points in the third quarter to extend Colonel’s lead to 20. Ally Collett pulled off a smashing layup with less than a second left on the clock to push the home team to 22nd and break into the last 10.

The Colonels outplayed Midway 23-8 in the third quarter.

Eastern Kentucky kept the Eagles 20 points away to put the game out of reach. Kalisa Lacy hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to secure the 31-point win for the Colonels.

Antwainette Walker recorded their sixth straight double-double to kick off the 2022-23 season, extending their top-ranking in the country as of Wednesday night.

Recanati had a season-high 19 points in today’s competition, her highest since February of last year against Kennesaw State.

The Colonels grabbed a season-leading 58 rebounds against the Eagles, the most since 2012 against Miami, Ohio.

The Colonels are preparing for a weekend showdown with No. 23 Tennessee this Sunday, November 27 at the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tenn.
