(AP) — Kyle Filipowski had 19 points and 14 rebounds as No. 8 Duke fended off a challenge from Oregon State to earn a 54-51 win in the opening game of the Phil Knight Legacy Tournament. Ryan Young added 11 points and 15 rebounds from the bench and was the only other Blue Devils player (5-1) to hit double digits. Jordan Pope led the Beavers (3-2) with 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Dexter Akanno hit two 3-pointers and scored 11 points.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Pete Nance scored 28 points, Caleb Love added 23 and the No. 1 North Carolina survived an unexpected test from Portland to beat the Pilots 89-81 in the opening round of the Phil Knight Invitational. It took the Tar Heels a late 14-3 run to eventually break away from one of the tournament’s host schools. Love wore the tar heels in the first half with 16 points. Nance picked up the doldrums after halftime with 20 points and achieved his career leading scorer last season while playing for Northwestern. Moses Wood led Portland by 21 points.

CANCUN, Mexico (AP) — Jakia Browner-Turner scored 18 points, Diamond Johnson added 16 with nine rebounds and seven assists and the No. 13 North Carolina State No. 13 defeated Vanderbilt 82-73 at the Cancun Classic. The Wolf Pack led 62-36 midway through the third quarter before the Commodores charged back behind St. Louis graduate Ciaja Harbison, who scored 34 points, 21 in the second half. NC State capitalized on a 15-0 run in the second quarter to lead 45-27 at halftime. After the wolf pack had reached its largest lead, it cooled off significantly, even if the lead only shrank to a single digit value in the final minute. They still finished with nine 3s and 52%. Vandy scored the last 10 points of the third quarter to close 66-52.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Eva Hodgson scored 14 of her 21 points during a fourth-quarter shootout, and No. 8 North Carolina rallied multiple times in the second half, beating No. 18 Oregon 85-79 in the semifinals of the Phil Knight Invitational. Hodgson scored 10 points in 90 seconds in the fourth quarter after it looked like the Ducks were about to retire. Hodgson’s four-point game with 5-12 remaining gave North Carolina a 72-68 lead. Alyssa Ustby added 19 points for North Carolina. Te-Hina Paopao led Oregon with 18 points and Grace VanSlooten added 17 points and 11 rebounds.

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas (AP) — Jarkel Joiner scored 20 of his 27 points after halftime, and North Carolina State used a big run in the second half to take control and include Dayton in Thursday’s consolation round at Battle 4 Atlantis to beat 76:64. Joiner particularly thrived on the foul line, making 11 of 13 free throws for the Wolf Pack after halftime. Terquavion Smith added 11 points. The Wolfpack took control with a 17-0 run from a 39-38 deficit. Toumani Camara scored 19 points for the Flyers. Dayton is the Atlantic 10 preseason favorite and was ranked No. 21 on the AP Top 25 before being sidelined this week.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — Andrew Platek notched a career-high 20 points, Javian McCollum added 18 with a career-high eight assists and Siena defeated Florida State 80-63 to open the ESPN Events Invitational. The Saints jumped on the Seminoles early, endured a few small runs and led by up to 20 players late in the game. The Saints broke a 5-5 tie with an 11-0 run. Florida State brought it back to 22-20 with an 11-2 run, but the Saints shot forward again with nine points and then ended the half with a 10-0 run to lead 43-26. The FSU brought it to nine at the beginning of the second half. Matthew Cleveland led the FSU with 14 points.

UNDATED (AP) — No. 18 North Carolina and North Carolina State will wrap up the regular-season schedule with their long-running rivalry game. The Tar Heels have already won a trip to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game. But they unexpectedly lost at home to Georgia Tech last week. The Wolf Pack suffered a second straight defeat last week while struggling with numerous injuries. NC State won last year’s meeting with a wild late comeback that will live on in the rivalry’s lore. North Carolina is trying to find its high-scoring form again before meeting No. 7 Clemson in the ACC title game.

BIMINI, Bahamas (AP) — Olivia Miles scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and No. 7 No. 7 won the Goombay Splash 90-65 over American. Sonia Citron added 17 points and Dara Mabrey had 15 for the Irish, who play Arizona State in their second game. Emily Johns scored 15 points for the Eagles. Notre Dame scored eight points in the final 93 seconds of the first quarter for a 26-11 lead and continued from there. The lead reached 28 in the second quarter before the Irish took a 52-29 lead at half-time. Notre Dame had 23 fast break points and 17 second chance points with a plus 22 rebound difference, leading to 42 points in the paint with 28 of 41 shots from the foul line.
