What you should know

The South Carolina Gamecocks will take on the Clemson Tigers Saturday at 12 p.m. ET at Memorial Stadium. After both teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one of them faces a disheartening turnaround.

USC made easy the Tennessee Volunteers last week, earning a 63-38 win. QB Spencer Rattler had a game of dynamite for the Gamecocks; He has passed six TDs and 438 yards on 37 tries. Topping the highlight reel was Rattler’s 60-yard TD bomb against WR Josh Vann in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, Clemson ran circles around the Miami (FL) Hurricanes last week and the extra yardage (447 yards versus 98 yards) was paying off. Things went Clemson’s way against Miami (FL) as they walked away with a 40-10 win. With Clemson leading 24 to nothing at halftime, the matchup was all but over. It was another big night for their QB DJ Uiagalelei, who passed on 34 attempts for two TDs and 227 yards, in addition to a rush for a TD and 89 yards.

The Gamecocks need to know they’re going to have an uphill battle given the 14.5 point margin they’re up against. However, those who like to bet on the underdog should be happy to hear that they are 3-1 against the spread when they are expected to lose.

Their wins put USC at 7-4 and the Tigers at 10-1. With both USC and Clemson stumbling in after impressive performances, it will be interesting to see which team steps forward to instill some humility in the other.
